Lucrarea se referă la re-restaurarea şi conservarea unui pahar de sticlă descoperit la Barcea, judeţul Galaţi, în necropola birituală datată în secolul al IV-lea p.Chr., aparţinând culturii Sântana de Mureş – Cernjachov. Obiectul a fost descoperit în stare fragmentară şi restaurat iniţial empiric, ajungând în laboratorul nostru de restaurare cu fragmente desprinse, cu adezivul îmbătrânit şi deteriorat, cu vizibile degradări specifice sticlei şi devieri de la forma iniţială. Paharul a fost dezasamblat în apă distilată caldă, vechiul adeziv fiind înlăturat mecanic sub lupă. După conservarea fragmentelor cu soluţie de Paraloid B72, a urmat reasamblarea lor cu răşina epoxidică bicomponentă Araldite 2020. Această restaurare s-a impus datorită particularităţii formei acestui obiect şi cerinţelor de expunere în vederea ilustrării vieţii spirituale şi sociale a comunităţii de secol IV de la Barcea.
The Restoration Methodology of Archaeological Glass Artefacts
Abstract
This paper refers to the re-restoration and preservation of a glass recipient found at Barcea, Galaţi County, in the bi-ritual necropolis dated to the fourth century AD, belonging to the culture Sântana de Mureş – Cernjachov, by curators Mircea Nicu and Stela Ţau from Tecuci Mixed Museum.
The object which we talk about (Glass Cup – Inv.No. 7755) is classified like typology 1b.21, has polished facets and it was found in grave M50, at 1.5 m deep.
The item was found in fragmentary condition and restored initial empirical, reaching our restoration laboratory with visible degradation specific for glass and deviations from the original form.
Glass recipient was disassembled in warm distilled water and the old glue was removed mechanically under magnifier.
After drying and preserving fragments with Paraloid B72 solution followed reassembly with Araldite 2020 epoxy bi-component resin used in different proportions.
Macromolecular substances used in the conservation and restoration of these glasses are appreciated in this area due to the physico-chemical characteristics according with basic principles of restoration: are waterproof and protects well against moisture, resists to chemicals effects in polluted atmosphere, are stable to light and not interact with objects, resist the attack of microorganisms and are chemically stable, are transparent and colorless, non-toxic, resistant to aging successfully and are reversible.
