Aspects of the Activity of the Orăştie Gendarmery Department during the Elections from 1946

Lucrarea de faţă aduce în lumina cititorilor un fond de arhivă alcătuit din note informative, ordine şi dări de seamă ale Sectorului de Jandarmi Orăştie din anul 1946; mai precis se axează pe cele două luni premergătoare alegerilor electorale din 19 noiembrie ale anului respectiv. Se are în vedere activitatea Sectorului Jandarmi Orăştie determinată de campania electorală. Principalele partide politice, Partidul Comunist Român, Partidul Social Democrat, Frontul Plugarilor şi care formează Blocul Partidelor Democratice sunt cele care au o activitate de propagandă intensă în zonă, în timp ce opoziţia, reprezentată de Partidul Naţional Liberal şi Partidul Naţional Ţărănesc încearcă o timidă acţiune în satele Turdaş, Vaidei, Pricaz. Principala obligaţie a Sectorului de Jandarmi era aceea de a raporta superiorilor întreaga activitate desfăşurată de partidele politice, dar şi de simpatizanţii lor în fiecare săptămână. Era o campanie de intimidare susţinută îndeaproape de jandarmi prin urmăriri şi percheziţii.
The present paper bring to the attention of the readers a collection of recorder documents consisting of informative notes, orders and reports of the Gendarmery Department. More precisely, it focuses on the two months preceding the elections from 19th of November of that year. Our center of attention is the activity of the Orăştie Gendarmery Department, as determined by the election campaign. The main political parties, i.e. the Romanian Communist Party, the Social Democrat Party, the Front of the Ploughmen, which from the Block of Democratic Parties, are those who have an intense canvass in this area, whereas the opposition, reprezented by the National Liberal Party, makes only timid canvassing attempts in the villages of Turdaş, Vaidei, Pricaz. The main obligation of the Gendarmery Department was to report to their superiors the entire activity of the political parties, as well as the activity of their supporters every week. It was a campaign of intimidation strongly sustained by the gendarmes by means of tracing and inquisitions.
