The problem of occupying the vacant dioceses preoccupied the authorities in Lugoj area even from the foundation of the diocese. The subject raised many problems due to the role the community had in the designation of the priest, but also to the economic circumstances of that time. That is why the clergy was never indifferent the parish they will take. In the middle of the nineteenth century there were two ways of getting to the sacerdotal dignity: in family, from father to son or through designating a candidate from the well to do people in the village. The custom of appointing the priest’s son led to the creation of real „dynasties” of priests. Only towards the end of the century the bishopric imposed new exigencies, accepting only qualified personnel, having theological studies. With years, the role of the bishopric in appointing the priests grew, marking the victory of the diocesan centre.
